This weekend was World Price and also the anniversary of the Stonewall riots that were the catalyst for the PrIde Movement. I watched the parade on W 8th Avenue in the centre of Manhattan. All of the road we’re closed in the centre of the city to accommodate for the 150,000 marchers and the millions of spectators. The city was alive with people celebrating Pride; I would have looked out of place if I hadn’t purchased a flag and necklace from a street vendor. As the different groups and organisations marched passed I heard people chatting to each other, some had been marching for LGBT+ rights for tens of years. There was an atmosphere of huge acceptance and celebration and Im so pleased I happened to be in NYC on a day where history was being made. Sight seeing for the rest of the day proved slow, being turned around again and again to avoid barriers and street parties, I ended up having to just enjoy whatever happened to be happening around the next corner - the Empire State Building can wait for another day!
