The Turks and Caicos Islands

Updated: Aug 4, 2019

My second cousin lives in Providenciales, the capital and most populated island in the Turks and Caicos archipelago. I wanted to visit a Caribbean island whilst on my trip to the US and having a connection in the T&C sounded like a great opportunity. My mum came and met me in New York and we flew down to Providenciales.

We stayed with my second cousin in the beautiful residential area called Leeward. The neighbourhood is situated on the salt water canal and in the mornings sea turtles drift past looking for jellyfish to eat.

The island was lined with stunning soft, sandy beaches and the water was gradual shades of clear blue water. The island itself is mainly set up to function for tourists; the majority of buildings are high end resorts and the island is alive with building work to accommodate more tourists. Having said that, the island felt quiet and the beaches were fairly quiet.

Lying on the beach and swimming in the sea here was the most relaxing experience with the beautiful sea views.
