4th July in NYC🇺🇸🇺🇸

Updated: Aug 4, 2019

4th of July is an American holiday that does not reach much of the rest the world - I didn‘t click that I was going to be in New York on July 4th until I arrived the United States. I was expecting lots of celebrations and flags lining the streets, however the city felt like any normal day except for a few cafes and shops being closed. All the major tourists sights were open and I spent the afternoon at the American Museum of Natural History. The city really came alive with celebrations at night as people prepared for the annual Macy‘s 4th of July fireworks. They were set off from the Brooklyn bridge and a barge in the Hudson below it this year and the motorway on the manhattan side was shut down and pedestrianised to allow people a prime viewing spot. I found a spot on the motorway, although blocked a bit by a road sign, with a great view of the fireworks. I counted 9 helicopters circling the bridge filming for different news outlets. The fireworks were amazing, on a par with Edinburgh castle at hogmanay. I was really lucky to be in the US on one of most patriotic days of the year and get to experience the holiday here!
